Priority options for the next administration’s ‘Programme for Government’ were aired at Liberal Vannin’s public meeting held in Ramsey last Saturday, October 23rd.
Lawrie Hooper, Party Leader, MHK for Ramsey and Minister for Health and Social Care led the discussion. He outlined the timetable that the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers were working to, with a broad framework planned for November Tynwald and a detailed programme prepared for early in the New Year.
Discussion took place on: Housing, Health Care for the Elderly, Bus Vannin service schedules, Financial Support for Students, Gas Pricing, Climate Change, Taxation, together with how a political party like Liberal Vannin can drive the policy agenda.
The meeting demonstrated the clear need for policymakers to continue to engage with the public and Parties like Liberal Vannin have an important role to play in bridging the gap between politicians and the people they are elected to serve.
The core issues covered in the Liberal Vannin joint manifesto issued for the 2021 General Election, such as protecting and growing jobs, building a fairer society and improving government accountability all came through very strongly and need to form an important part of this government’s upcoming Island Plan.
Further details of these core issues are available online at House of Keys General Election 2021 – Liberal Vannin
Our next meeting will focus on the nominated candidates for the Legislative Council and will take place prior to the election in Tynwald on November 23rd. Details to be announced.
