Local Government and Rates Reform

Liberal Vannin is holding a public meeting on Monday, March 25th  – 7.30pm at the Manx Legion Club, Douglas.

Paul Weatherall, Chair of Liberal Vannin and former Ballaugh Parish Commissioner, will lead a discussion on how the Island’s local authorities, and the way they are financed, could be changed in future.

We expect this will be of interest to existing Commissioners and Councillors and anyone considering standing for the Island’s local authority elections in May 2025.

If you have a view on the so-called “Ramsey Land Grab”, the Braddan Roundhouse, all-Island rates, or the various proposals for reducing the number of local authorities, then come along and have your say.

Liberal Vannin agrees that reform of local government and rates on the Island is necessary, and long overdue, and hopes that candidates for MHK in the next general election in 2026 will express their views on this in their manifestos.

In the meantime, this public meeting on March 25th is your opportunity to influence the debate.
